Veteran filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has raised eyebrows by revealing the outrageous vanity van demands made by some Bollywood actors today. According to Gupta, it’s become common for stars to arrive on set with up to six separate vanity vans — each designated for a different purpose such as makeup, gym, kitchen, personal time, or entourage space.
He even cited cases where celebrity couples have asked for 11 vans between them, pushing production costs to extreme levels. In one instance, a Bollywood actor was reportedly fired from a South Indian film after showing up with six vans unannounced — causing an estimated ₹18 lakh in extra expenses for the producer.
Gupta contrasted this trend with the humility of earlier stars like Amitabh Bachchan, who, he says, never burden producers with personal staff or unnecessary luxuries. He noted that the scale of entourages has grown massively — from just 2–3 people earlier to 30 or more now — with demands that are increasingly “unrealistic and unsustainable” for many filmmakers.
Gupta’s remarks have sparked a fresh debate in the industry over professionalism, budgets, and the growing culture of excess on film sets.
