Mumbai, September 30, 2025 — Acclaimed actor Paresh Rawal is set to return to the big screen with a powerful courtroom drama titled The Taj Story, a film that has already stirred nationwide curiosity and controversy ahead of its release on October 31, 2025.
Directed by Tushar Amrish Goel and produced by Swarnim Global Services Pvt. Ltd., the film aims to revisit the age-old narrative surrounding the Taj Mahal. Set in a gripping courtroom format, The Taj Story questions whether the country has truly decolonized its understanding of history — asking provocatively: “Are we still slaves of intellectual terrorism decades after Independence?”
The movie features a stellar ensemble cast including Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Namit Das, and Sneha Wagh alongside Rawal, and brings together themes of history, ideology, and truth-seeking through the lens of legal argument.
Poster Sparks Controversy
The first-look poster — featuring Rawal lifting the dome of the Taj Mahal to reveal what appears to be a Shiva statue — ignited controversy online. Accusations of historical distortion and religious provocation led to debates on social media and mainstream platforms.
In response, the filmmakers issued a public clarification:
“The Taj Story does not deal with religious matters. It is not based on any mythology or faith-based claim. It is a dramatized exploration of historical inquiry through legal dialogue.”
CBFC Review and Fact-Checking
Reports suggest that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has placed the film under intense scrutiny, requesting the production team to submit documentation backing the historical elements presented in the story. The filmmakers, in turn, have reportedly complied, sharing reference materials and disclaimers to ensure transparency.
A Courtroom Drama with a Purpose
Rather than retelling history, the makers claim that The Taj Story focuses on freedom of academic inquiry, the ownership of narratives, and the right to question established beliefs in a democratic society.
Rawal, known for his fearless choices, said in a recent statement:
“This film is not about changing history. It’s about asking: who gets to write it?”
